We are translating Absolutely Free, The Gospel Under Siege, and The Hungry Inherit by Zane Hodges for use in ministry in Ukraine. Absolutely Free and The Gospel Under Siege are being translated into Ukrainian and The Hungry Inherit is being translated into Russian.
Zane Hodges (1932-2008) served as a Greek professor at Dallas Theological Seminary from 1959-1986. This was just a tentmaker, though, as he considered his real ministry to be with Victor Street Bible Chapel where he was able to serve the inner-city Hispanic community of Dallas without pay because of his work in the seminary. He is well known for his views regarding the Gospel and for his stance on the Majority Text.
In his book, Absolutely Free, Zane gives a biblical response to the theology of "Lordship Salvation" that became popular in the 20th century. Lordship theology has unfortunately become wildly popular among many protestants in the former Soviet Union. We believe that a significant part of the problem is simply a question of availability. Several Lordship Salvation books are available in Russian and John MacArthur is a household name among Protestants. However, Ukrainian is a language that most soteriologists have left alone, and as Ukrainian patriotism is on the rise, we believe that providing Ukrainians with a solid, biblical response in their own language could be a huge step toward freedom from the oppression of self-righteousness.
Zane's book, The Gospel Under Siege, clears up many questions that people have regarding faith and works. Zane answers big questions, such as, "Can I really be sure?" "What is dead faith?" "Are the tests in 1st John tests of life?" These are big questions in Ukraine, and The Gospel Under Siege is an effective tool for answering them.
A Russian translation of The Hungry Inherit has great potential to reach Ukraine and beyond. The Hungry Inherit is written like a novel and gives the readers a feel for walking through the Holy Land. This simpler read will be appropriate for speakers of Russian as a second language throughout the vast territory that was once the atheist Soviet Union.

Update: Mission Complete!!!

As of January 19th, 2017, Operation Ukraine Zane is complete! We have successfully translated, proofed, typeset, and printed 1,000 copies of the three books (our original goal was to print 300 copies). We would like to extend our warm gratitude to everyone who joined us in making this project possible. Thank you!
